BMES at UCSD

About Us

The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Chapter at the University of California, San Diego seeks to bring together students with a common interest: bioengineering. Our members span a wide range of studies, including biomedicine, bioengineering, biotechnology, and bioinformatics. We seek to help the next generation of bioengineers develop academically, professionally, and socially.

Academics
UCSD students learn not only through classes, but through the enlightening activities put together by BMES. In addition to the General Body Meetings, BMES sponsors and organizes events, such as Lunch with Professors, a graduate student panel, design teams, and Bioengineering Day, all of which are designed to help undergraduates in bioengineering get the most out of their education.

Professional development
Through the industry tours and nights sponsored by BMES, students have the opportunity to tour and/or learn about a diverse array of bioengineering companies in the San Diego area. Industry events enable students to develop a network of industry professionals and to gain insight into the career paths that their education at UCSD will allow them to pursue. Furthermore, these tours allow industry leaders to check out some of the best and brightest bioengineering students in the nation.

Community
BMES consists of an amazing group of students. Some will become leaders in the biotech industry and others will conduct cutting edge research. Either way, BMES members are headed by an incredible group of officers who sacrifice their time, energy, and sleep to make our BMES events possible.

BMES offers students the chance to become actively involved in a diverse group of committees (historian, mentor/mentee, outreach, publicity, etc). Each group puts together amazing events and publications each year that benefit UCSD students as well as the San Diego community.
