Mission Statement
The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) is dedicated to enriching the undergraduate experience for those in the Department of Bioengineering and for those interested in Biomedical Engineering by fostering personal growth and professional development. For the 2023-2024 academic year, we strive to work with the bioengineering department to bring attention to the biomedical field within the community and encourage multidisciplinary involvement in order to foster a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment.

Lab Expo is an annual research exposition aimed towards exposing undergraduates to the diverse and thriving research community at UCSD and enriching the community as a whole. Lab Expo's mission is three-fold: develop scientific literacy, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and encourage scientific advocacy.

The goal of our Outreach Committee is to not only introduce bioengineering to the upcoming generation of K-12 students, but also to give back to the local San Diego community. Join us in our journey to reach out to people who need our help, and to initiate the passions for science, technology, engineering and mathematics in the younger crowd!
Translational Medicine Day

Translational Medicine is a new discipline in biomedical research that aims to expedite the discovery of new diagnostic tools and treatments by using a multidisciplinary, highly collaborative, "bench-to-bedside" approach. Our Translational Medicine Day committee hopes to showcase this amazing field by planning the annual Translational Medicine Day event!
Bioengineering Day

Bioengineering Day showcases the full expanse of bioengineering as a far-reaching field of study with diverse applications in healthcare, research, and technology in a way accessible to anyone interested in Bioengineering. This event is an opportunity for seniors to showcase their design projects, speakers to share insights into their respective fields, and UC San Diego student teams the chance to test their smarts at the annual Quiz Bowl. With this cherished tradition, BMES works to create a day dedicated to the field of Bioengineering.

The Project Team Committee is dedicated to the Biomedical Research and Competition sector of our organization. Every year, we hope to give undergraduate studnets the ability to attain hands-on experience with laboratory techniques in academic departments ranging from Mechanical to Bioengineering to the UC San Diego Medical School. Additionally we hope to get people involved in research by providing exciting projects developed by partnering faculty!
New Student Committee

The new student committee for both freshman and new transfers is a social instrument to introduce students to BMES and UCSD's Bioengineering program via social outings and through planning of the Bioengineering Experience, an event that outlines the fields and opportunities that the tracks in UCSD Bioengineering can offer. But primarily, we are here to give new students the confidence and resources to succeed at UCSD and beyond.
